Football Friends: helping Deans Youth & Ladies’ team

18/06/2018

It’s not just the World Cup that has everyone at Kenny Waste Management talking about football this week – it’s one of our fantastic local youth teams. At Kenny Waste Management, we believe in supporting our community, so when a client asked us to help out a local football club, we really wanted to be involved.

Kenny Waste Management has worked for years with John Sisk & Son, an international construction company with a Manchester branch. One of our contacts there, Sean Healey, manages a team for Deans Youth & Ladies FC. He heard about our Driving Change Social Enterprise work and mentioned it to the Chair of Deans FC.

Deans Youth & Ladies FC has been coaching Manchester’s many talented young players since 1964. The club has 15 teams, along with a “holding group” for footballers as young as four. Ryan Giggs and Dean Holden were both scouted from Deans and are now the club’s patrons.

They are currently doing up their clubhouse and are short of funds. When Sean mentioned Kenny Waste Management’s community work to the Chair, club founder Dennis Schofield, he jumped at the chance of some extra local support.

Kenny Waste Management’s Paul Eagleton (who leads our Driving Change Social Enterprise initiative) had a chat with Sean, and agreed to help the club out with a heavily discounted skip. A team of volunteers, along with local construction and other equipment hire companies, turned up onsite at the club last week, and so much was achieved in just one day. The skip helped them to power through the clear-out work.

Knowing that you have the support of local businesses behind you makes such a difference to a community group or charity. We were delighted to be able to help these talented players; and we hope that their new clubhouse helps them continue to build fantastic local skills.
